Meet Sarah – Alchemy Skin & Body Bar
“I want to make a positive difference in people’s lives. I am inspired by seeing that shift in their skin and the boost this gives their self-confidence. Their happiness fuels my passion for my work.”
As the name of her business suggests, Sarah believes in the power of transformation—the alchemical gold she helps her clients discover is the youthful, healthy glow they experience as the result of the amazing range of skin and body treatments she offers.
Although she recently celebrated the businesses’ 2nd birthday at Aslan House, Sarah, owner and primary beauty technician at Alchemy Skin & Body Bar, has been a passionate member of the beauty industry for over 17 years.
She already had a wide range of treatment skills under her belt, including facials and skin needling, and had worked for a variety of companies, from smaller outlets right up to the big franchises, when she felt it was a natural progression for her to go out on her own and open her own practice.
Since opening Alchemy, Sarah has done a lot of new training and incorporated some more high-end treatments, such as the Plasma Lift technique. Sarah shared that this treatment is very new and has only been available in Australia since last October.
“It really helps with the removal of wrinkles and giving more intricate face lifts which entails more training. In this industry there are always new things coming out and I like to keep up-to-date with all the latest techniques and technologies so I can keep my skills and offer as current as possible.”
What can people expect to discover at Alchemy Skin & Body Bar?
“I am blessed with this cozy, warm and inviting space to work in and people often comment on the décor and how nice it feels in here.
I am constantly trying to create and maintain an inviting environment without too much of the clinical vibe—it about finding the balance between cleanliness of a professional treatment space with the warm, homey feel that helps people relax and feel welcomed.
On the treatment side of things, my main difference would be the Clinical Skin Clear Pro, which treats minor skin lesions. This brings guys in as well, which is great. And also the Plasma Lift treatment, that has made a difference because not many people in the area offer it.
I also offer HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound), non-surgical face-lifts. There is another Sarah who does these treatments; she travels up from New South Wales, once or twice a month, through the week.”
I am inspired by…
“Aside from Audrey Hepburn - she is my inspiration – I am inspired by seeing the difference in people’s skin, the positive change and seeing people happy. It’s a nice feeling and so motivating, when you know you’ve done an awesome job and people tell other people and it keeps that high energy level going – that’s the inspiration behind the work.”
I am inspired to…
“Make a difference. It would be easy to believe the changes I am making are only skin deep, because technically that’s all I’m doing. Yet, when I see the shift for someone has gone deeper, it really makes me happy. The change in their appearance is the catalyst; the true change happens at a much more fundamental level and it just shines out of them. I love that!
I would love to think I am helping people become more comfortable in their own skin in a way that allows them to make better connections and live their lives to the fullest.”
Key strengths that helped me become the person I am today…
“Determination, and consistency, that’s a pretty big one and that can be quite a challenge for me.
Having the tenacity and ambition, and the willingness to not give up too quickly has definitely made me become more of a stronger person. I try to look on the positive side and always know, and feel, that at the end of the day it is all going to be okay. Even if you are going through a rough patch, it’s always going to be okay.
Also, having that goal, that focus, on where I want to be…whether it’s wanting to buy a house, or having more financial freedom. It definitely keeps me going, keeps me motivated and achieving my life goals.
You sacrifice a lot to run a small business, particularly when you go from having a weekly income to nothing…and then not really having a regular income for quite some time. It is very challenging and very stressful at times, but I think, you have to overlook that, and remember why you started what you did in the first place…that’s where the passion lies.
It is hard to comprehend at times, why am I doing this? Why am I putting myself through this? But at the end of the day, that’s exactly it, you do it for the passion, you remember why you do it, not necessarily what you are doing, but what the fire is burning under what you are doing.”
What I see on the horizon…
“I love the new Plasma Lift treatment. That’s one of my passions at the moment. I can see myself doing quite well with it and that is what I want to keep doing going forward. Really focusing on the things that are working and be the best I can be at them.
At the business level, it is about keeping up-to-date with things which means more training. It is a fixed goal of mine to always try and learn as much as I can and meet new people, especially in the industry, to learn from them.
I am doing a lot more marketing now with Google, as well as updating the website and tweaking things to make everything a bit smoother.
And one day maybe I would like to expand out, keep developing, and keep growing, more people, and more staff.
Personally, I want to get a house, do more travelling and enjoy life more, more work-life balance.
I have become a bit more a protester lately, in regards to the environment, it really needs to change. That comes from my desire to help out communities and make a positive change, to be able to give back.
Maybe, that’s the Alchemy I want for the whole world…”
